Drive the bar straight up as this is the shortest possible distance to lockout. Most trainers will maintain you should have a slight backwards arc as you press, moving from your lower rib cage to over your face at the end of the rep, however, this can add a couple of inches to the movement and this is a waste of energy. Also if you start to use a bench shirt it will automatically start pulling you backwards and this can throw you badly off line if you are already pushing backwards.
For people who constantly transfer from one workspace to another, moving a bench would be a lot easier if the bench is equipped with folding legs. Can you imagine all the difficulties involved in moving a huge, working bench with fixed legs? Every part has a function. That is an age-old diction. And its true. So the ideal legs for your bench would depend on what type of work you are going to do. If you will do demanding tasks that will require you to put heavy objects on your bench, then solid and fixed legs would be perfect. But if your work will demand you to transfer from one workspace to another from time to time, then you should consider getting folding legs for your work bench.
Leg Style. I can tell right away when the bench is a replacement bench and not the bench that originally came with the piano by the fact that most people have a bench that does not have legs to match the leg style of the piano. I may be a little bit of a stickler about this but you should be able to find a bench to match and you should make the effort to find one since it will be a part of your home for decades. Most benches are available with classic straight legs, spade legs, and sometimes antique types of legs such as Louis XIV are available.
