There are many different style of benches, places to put them, and uses for them. When most people here the word bench they usually think of the traditional park bench. Though the park bench is the most well known of the bench styles, it is hardly the only one. In the last several years, benches have been gaining the popularity around the home that they deserve. There is a large market for all different sorts of benches in todays world. Gardens and backyards have become the new home for many of these benches on the market. Some of these benches are used merely for decoration while others are used for decoration and for relaxing. Purchasing a bench that gives both style and comfort is the ultimate goal for most people. People are falling in love with their newly bought garden and backyard benches with all the new styles and flavors to choose from. These benches can be beautifully crafted and made with top of the line quality materials.
If you find that there is a specific part of the lift where you struggle try to drive through that part even quicker if possible. I will talk about sticking points in a future article. Keep driving the bar upwards as fast as you can and with as much power as you can until your elbows lock out and your arms are straight. There are many specific lock out exercises but I will delve into these deeper in another article. In 2005 I could bench press what I though was a very respectable 120kg and then I met my friend Dave Bulldog Beattie and he changed my perspective of what I thought was a good bench press. Watching him bench press close to 300kg made me realize I had to improve. He taught me the above principles and in 2009 I finished second in the WPC World Powerlifing Championship and benched 285kg just six months after injuring my pectoral muscle in a raw competition. My best raw bench press in competition is 225kg in 2008.
The bench press is by far the most popular movement in any gym. It is also an exercise with which have many lifters, casual and competitive alike, have trouble mastering. Though most trainees tend to just plop down on the bench and press away, there is a huge technical aspect to the bench press that many people find greater and more challenging than with the squat, deadlift, or other lifts. If you want to increase your bench press, it is imperative that you work just as much, if not more on your technique as you do your muscular strength.
